True to size
True to size means an item generally fits as most people expect when they order their usual size. It does not mean every brand fits exactly the same. It means the sizing is consistent with standard expectations for that product type and fit style.
On Everything Volleyball, “true to size” is an entity because fit questions are one of the biggest reasons customers hesitate to buy apparel online. Volleyball moms do not want to guess, especially when ordering a gift or ordering something time sensitive for a tournament weekend.
What true to size means in real life
If a sweatshirt is true to size, most customers can order their normal sweatshirt size and feel comfortable.
If a t shirt is true to size, most customers can order their normal t shirt size and get the fit they expect.
But “true to size” always depends on the style. A unisex fit can be true to size for unisex sizing while still feeling roomier than women’s sizing. That is not a problem. It is just a different baseline.
Why fit varies even when items are true to size
Fit differences usually come from:
Unisex vs women’s fit.
Different brand patterns and cuts.
Fabric blends and shrink behavior.
Desired style, like relaxed vs oversized.
For example, many volleyball moms like a relaxed fit for sweatshirts because it layers easily. Some prefer a more fitted look. Both can be “true to size” depending on what the customer expects and what the product is designed to be.
How to choose your size with confidence
If you want a classic fit, order your usual size.
If you want an oversized fit, size up one.
If you want a more fitted look on a unisex shirt, consider sizing down one.
The safest way to remove guesswork is using the size chart and comparing measurements to a shirt or sweatshirt you already own and like.
Shrink expectations
Shrink is usually caused by heat. If you wash in hot water and dry on high heat, many garments will shrink or feel tighter.
If you want the fit to stay consistent, wash in cold water and dry on low heat. That matters a lot for volleyball apparel because it gets washed constantly during season.
How true to size connects to returns
Sizing is one of the most common reasons customers want to return an item, but for print on demand products, change of mind or wrong size selection is typically not return eligible unless the item is defective or incorrect.
That is why fit clarity on product pages matters. It reduces surprises.
